Who we are

We are Cornell DEBUT, the premier biomedical engineering project team on campus! We are a diverse group of undergraduate students from a variety of colleges who come together to develop innovative solutions for current biomedical problems. We submit our projects to VentureWell’s national DEBUT competition, in hopes of winning awards and gaining recognition!

What we do

As a whole, DEBUT is a project team that operates on a two-year cycle. The Phase I team focuses on brainstorming and ideation of a brand new project, by searching through pressing issues throughout biomedical research. By the end of the year, this subteam decides what feasible and impactful project to develop the following year.

Then, the Phase II team prototypes the new device and tests it, before compiling a comprehensive report and video submission for the DEBUT competition. Additionally, economic analysts help the Phase I and II teams identify the marketability, reimbursement, and regulatory pathway of the newly proposed projects.

Lastly, to aid in the structure and financial support of the entire project team, our operations analysts function behind the scenes to fundraise, facilitate team bonding, and allocate funds for product development.

why give

DEBUT needs your support! Biomedical engineering at Cornell is growing faster than ever and our team is growing with it. In our efforts to expand and create more ambitious projects, we rely on contributions from generous donors. This year, for the first time, we are working on creating two projects at the same time. In order to accomplish this, we need donations to buy equipment, materials, and to support other team costs. With your help, we can create a strong submission to the national competition, which could lead to patent applications and recognition. Keep in mind that our ultimate goal is to develop our devices into products that patients can use to improve their health and quality of life! We thank you in advance for your support!
